Our Living Language Speakers of some scattered varieties of American English sometimes use I'm instead of I've or I have in present perfect constructions, as in
 not sure if my friend needs to talk, but I want to help. How can I make her feel better without causing her to feel uneasy?

Dear Wanting to Help,

I'm sorry about your friend's mom but glad you're so caring. Let your friend know you're there for her during this difficult time. Some days, she'll want to laugh and be silly. Other days, she might want to scream or sob SOB shortness of breath.
