Walt Disney plans to focus park efforts on Anaheim site.

The Burbank-based entertainment giant announced previously that it plans to build a second theme park in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, , but until now management had not decided whether to build a water-based park in Long Beach or a theme park adjacent to Disneyland in Anaheim.

Building a park in Long Beach would have been a long and arduous process, company officials said. It would have required an entitlement and approval process that would have taken four to five years and would have cost $70 million, said David Malmuth, vice president of Disney Development at a press conference held downtown last week.
