:WALK) today announced the availability of WalkerClient Q&R and Walker InfoView, two strategic components of Walker's newly unveiled information access solution.

Leveraging industry-leading technologies, Walker's open and comprehensive information access solution extends the capabilities of its core mainframe client/server financial applications with new best-of-breed products and services.

"With WalkerClient Q&R and Walker InfoView, we are delivering the technology organizations require for easy access to business information, utilizing the industry's best functionality," said Darrell Trimble, Walker's vice president of worldwide marketing. "These new products complement our currently available WalkerClient DSS (1) (Digital Signature Standard) A National Security Administration standard for authenticating an electronic message. See RSA and digital signature.

(2) (Digital Satellite S
and Tamaris ReportBuilder products, comprising one of the most comprehensive information access solutions available from any applications vendor."

WalkerClient Q&R

WalkerClient Q&R is a powerful, easy to use desktop reporting tool that provides full-featured software configuration and administration for distributed query and reporting requirements. Based on Information Builders (Information Builders, Inc., New York, www.informationbuilders.com) A software company founded in 1975 by Gerald Cohen that specializes in enterprise business intelligence and real time Web reporting. , Inc. (IBI See Information Builders. ) FOCUS Six for Windows, WalkerClient Q&R enables users to selectively query complex operational data against any source database, and transform that data into a format that is easily viewed and interpreted. WalkerClient Q&R employs a second generation, three-tier client/server A three-way interaction in a client/server environment, in which the user interface is stored in the client, the bulk of the business application logic is stored in one or more servers, and the data are stored in a database server. See client/server.  architecture that evenly and intelligently distributes processing to minimize network and server traffic for a more scalable and high performance solution.

"With first generation or "fat client" reporting architectures, customers are often bogged-down by networking inefficiencies with poor response times and scalability issues due to the heavy processing occurring on the client system," explained Trimble. "They may also end-up paying the price of higher-cost server configurations to support operational systems. WalkerClient Q&R's three-tier architecture better balances the processing load, reducing network and server overload, so that operational processing is less affected by reporting."

WalkerClient Q&R also offers Report Painter and Report Assist to simplify the report development process and make it easier to create complex reports from coded financial data simply by pointing and clicking a mouse. WalkerClient Q&R's intuitive WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Pronounced "wiz-ee-wig." It refers to displaying text and graphics on screen the same as they will print on paper or display on a Web page.  display provides extensive control over stylized styl·ize

Walker InfoView

Based on IBI's industry-leading EDA/SQL middleware, Walker InfoView combines software and services that enable SQL SQL

. Walker InfoView enables users to access complex tables and files, visualize Walker and non-Walker data, and combine data from different functional organizations. In addition, Walker InfoView accesses heterogeneous platforms, including mainframe-to-UNIX and PCs, and exploits the inherent network traffic advantages of using both EDA/SQL and WalkerClient Q&R.

An enabling technology for Walker's comprehensive information access solution, Walker InfoView constructs an internal "bridge" between the operational database and the data repository See repository. , creating a metadata layer and turning cryptic database data into information the average business user can understand. With this metadata view, Walker InfoView forms the foundation of business-area datamarts for read-access across multiple disparate data sources. Business-area datamarts can form the foundation to or complement new or existing corporate datawarehouses. Walker InfoView can also serve as a reporting datamart, by accessing data from operational and warehousing systems.

"Thorough information access requires an enterprise-wide view of operational data sources that are enhanced by accurate metadata mapping to unlock and use corporate data for strategic purposes," said Barry Wilderman, vice president of application delivery strategies at the META Group, a Stamford, Connecticut Stamford is a city in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. Walker's information access solution is part of an evolutionary approach to client/server computing, delivered as part of Walker's `surround strategy' that enables users to benefit from mainframe client/server.
