This book is a comprehensive guide to exercise for anyone who has osteoporosis or is at risk for developing this condition and for the clinician who provides health care to this patient population. Several of the exercises may appear to be redundant, but these variations are used as readers progress through the exercise sequence. Although the author provides helpful "tips" to describe the purpose of each exercise, she does not always include the criteria for this progression. In addition, information is provided on how to obtain videotapes of the exercises illustrated in this book and how to obtain a companion book that addresses the diagnostic and medical management of osteoporosis. Because of its contents, this book is worth purchasing, especially considering the number of individuals who have osteoporosis but never have the opportunity to consult with a health care professional regarding an appropriate exercise program. I would encourage physical therapists and other health care professionals who counsel patients with osteoporosis or who participate in health promotion programs for middle-aged and older adults to recommend this book as a prevention and treatment guide.
