Infectious, disabling mosquito-borne fever. Other symptoms include extreme joint pain and stiffness, intense pain behind the eyes, a return of fever after brief pause, and a characteristic rash.
.

Walia also accused the civic agency of keeping the government in the dark about the total number of cases. She squarely blamed MCD health officer N.K.

Yadav for not doing enough to prevent the disease. "The health officer of the MCD is not sharing information about the total number of dengue cases in various hospitals with the government," Walia said. "The MCD is not taking enough measures to prevent mosquito breeding by spraying repellents and Tamifos powder. It is not taking preventive measures to control waterborne diseases.

"The MCD is also not sharing information regarding the prevention of diseases such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya

Chikungunya is a relatively rare form of viral fever caused by an alphavirus that is spread by mosquito bites from Aedes aegypti
and cholera, which come under its preview, with the Delhi government," she said.

The rapid spread of the disease and the panic it's creating among residents has, however, have led the government to announce it will intensify the drive against dengue.

Walia held a meeting on Monday with senior officials of the Delhi government, the MCD, the New Delhi Municipal Council New Delhi Municipal Council is the name of the municipal corporation of the city of New Delhi, India.  and representatives of private and public hospitals.

The government has called for involvement of people in the drive to contain dengue and will carry out awareness campaigns.

" We will issue public notices, advertisements and dos and don'ts to sensitise Verb 1. sensitise - cause to sense; make sensitive; "She sensitized me with respect to gender differences in this traditional male-dominated society"; "My tongue became sensitized to good wine"

Three Delhi government hospitals -- Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and Headgewar Hospital -- have been notified to arrange for blood platelets for dengue patients who are not able to get donors.

The emergency wards in all hospitals will be made operational round- theclock to take care of dengue patients. Adequate stock of medicines will be made available.

Hospitals have also been asked to keep sufficient blood in their blood banks.

Medical superintendents of all private and government hospitals have been asked to keep a surveillance on dengue patients.

The hospitals which do not furnish a report on dengue patients will be prosecuted.

The MCD has been asked to gear up its machinery to combat the disease.
