Walgreens world.

We once heard a developer say that Walgreens would like to have one location per 15,000 people in metropolitan areas.

That means that a dozen or so stores would suffice in Little Rock, with roughly 185,000 residents. And at the current rate, it won't be long before that quota's met.

There are seven existing Walgreens stores in Little Rock and one in the works at the corner of Mississippi and Cantrell Roads. We got word that another one is under way at the corner of Chenal Parkway and Wellington Hills Road on a site that was originally planned for a Saturn dealership.

That'll make nine to go along with the 13 or so that already pop up on the map in and around Little Rock on the Walgreens Web site.

According to the site, Walgreens will have opened 621 new stores in 2007 and plans to add 550 more in 2008. It has 46 in Arkansas and 6,141 nationally.
