Wakefern Selects Transora's Data Pool Solution; Major Grocery Cooperative to Work with Transora's Community.

CHICAGO -- Transora, the leading Data Pool for the consumer products industry, announced today that the Wakefern Food Corporation has selected Transora as its Recipient Data Pool.

Wakefern's announcement represents the tenth to join Transora's global community of food and consumer product manufacturers and retailers. Wakefern, a retail cooperative with over 190 stores located in the Northeast, will begin pilot activities with Transora's community.

"Data synchronization is a foundational technology for both retailers and manufacturers," said Alan Aront, Vice President, Wakefern's Information Services Division. "By partnering with Transora, we have underscored our commitment to increase supply chain efficiencies allowing us to work more closely with our trading partners."

"We chose Transora because of its premier customer community, as well as the advanced functionality offered in its Recipient Data Pool solution," added Aront. "We anticipate many benefits for Wakefern, now and into the future, as the Transora community continues to synchronize more valuable supply chain data."

Transora synchronizes the supply chain by providing Data Pool solutions that enable retailers and manufacturers to exchange valuable item information. In addition to its Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) Data Pool capabilities, Transora provides advanced functionality for both manufacturers and retailers. This functionality enables the synchronization of price & promotion and new item introduction data. This combination of advanced functionality, established interoperability with other Data Pools, and a robust customer community has enabled Transora to have the largest catalogue of product data in the industry.

"Wakefern's addition to our customer community confirms Transora's support for retailers' needs," said Transora interim CEO Bob Noe. "We will assist Wakefern in implementing a data synchronization solution to achieve increased efficiencies for their supply chain."

About Wakefern Food Corp.

From a small, struggling cooperative with seven members - all owners of their own grocery stores - Wakefern Food Corporation has grown into the largest retailer-owned cooperative in the United States and one of the largest employers in New Jersey. The cooperative is comprised of 40 members who individually own and operate supermarkets under the ShopRite banner. Today, Wakefern, the merchandising and distribution arm of the company, and the 190 ShopRite stores located throughout New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware, employ more than 40,000 people.

A long time supporter of key community efforts, ShopRite was named the New Jersey Corporate Philanthropist of the Year in 1998, by the Community Foundation of New Jersey. In 1999, America's Second Harvest recognized ShopRite as the Grocery Distributor of the year for its ShopRite Partners In Caring program, a year-round initiative dedicated to fighting hunger in the communities served by ShopRite stores.
