WYSE TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY'S (EPA) ENERGY STAR COMPUTERS PROGRAM

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyse Technology Inc. today announced its support for the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Energy Star Computers program which sets guidelines for low power consumption computer equipment including personal computers and monitors. The Energy Star Computers program is a voluntary partnership between the EPA and leading computer manufacturers to provide PCs, monitors and printers that enter a lower-power, stand-by state when inactive, saving up to 75 percent in electricity use.
"Wyse is actively involved in the movement towards energy efficient computer systems," said Rich Wesson, vice president of business development for Wyse's Systems Division. "We support the EPA's guidelines and will be providing our customers with PC systems that not only reduce energy consumption, but offer several innovative power management features and performance."
According to the EPA, computer equipment currently totals five percent of commercial energy usage in the United States. The EPA estimates that users of Energy Star computers will save $2 billion annually.
"We're pleased to see the federal government take the lead by committing to purchase EPA Energy Star compliant computers," commented Wesson on yesterday's Executive Order issued by President Clinton.
Wesson said in addition to lower energy costs, other benefits of Wyse's Energy Star compliant PCs will include decreased noise from fans and lower heat dissipation. Growing environmental concerns and the constant need for organizations to find overhead cost savings contribute to the appeal of Energy Star PCs as well, he added.
