WYLE AWARDED CONTRACT BY EPRI TO TEST MOTOR OPERATED VALVES
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Scientific Services & Systems Group of Wyle Laboratories (NYSE: WYL) has been awarded a $2.3 million contract for Phase I of a multi-phase program with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) of Palo Alto, Calif. Phase I includes testing of up to 10 motor operated valves (MOVs). Subsequent phases anticipate the testing of 50 additional MOVs, which could bring the total contract value to in excess of $9 million.
Wyle will provide engineering services and flow testing facilities as part of EPRI's comprehensive program to furnish electric utilities with an analytical methodology to predict motor operated valve performance. The program includes a combination of analysis and tests which address a variety of valve and operator performance characteristics.
The contract calls for test and inspection data on various MOVs under a range of pressure and flow conditions. In addition, the company will obtain data on selected MOVs indicating the effect of parameters such as flow rate, fluid medium, temperature and loop configurations.
The contract will be performed at Wyle Laboratories' test and engineering
facilities in Huntsville and Norco, Calif. Certain tests will also be performed under a subcontract to Seimens Nuclear Power Services Inc.
Wyle Laboratories is a major supplier of research, engineering and testing services to the aerospace, defense and energy industries. The company is also one of the nation's leading marketers of high- technology electronic components and computer systems.
