WYETH-AYERST LABORATORIES AND MICROGENESYS, INC. AGREE TO TERMINATE VAXSYN HIV-1 LICENSE ARRANGEMENTS

 RADNOR, Pa., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, division of American Home Products Corporation (NYSE: AHP), and MicroGeneSys, Inc. of Meriden, Conn., announced today that they are negotiating the terms on which American Home Products will terminate its involvement in the development of MicroGeneSys' VaxSyn HIV-1(R).
 This product has been under development since 1987 for use as a therapeutic for AIDS patients as well as a possible vaccine for the prevention of infection with the HIV virus that causes AIDS. Robert Levy, M.D., president of Wyeth-Ayerst Research, stated: "We have agreed to unwind our involvement with this project on amicable terms. We have been impressed by the capabilities of MicroGeneSys and the dedication of their people. We wish them well in their future activities."
