The cyberworld just got a whole lot better for Daily News readers.

Starting today, the Daily News of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  has dramatically expanded its presence on the Internet with the official launch of a new Web site, located at the easy-to-remember address of www.DailyNews.com.

The Daily News has had a limited online presence since July 1996 as a part of America Online's Digital City network. That location remains active and AOL (A division of Time Warner, Inc., New York, NY, www.aol.com) The world's largest online information service with access to the Internet, e-mail, chat rooms and a variety of databases and services.  users can access a limited version of the Daily News site by going to Keyword: Daily News.

The new site, DailyNews.com, offers:

An assortment of daily photos and stories as well as a searchable archive of stories dating back to Nov. 1, 1998.

Special sections devoted to some of the Daily News' most popular features, including columnist Dennis McCarthy Dennis McCarthy may refer to:
  • Dennis McCarthy (composer), (born 1945), an American composer
  • Dennis McCarthy (congressman), (19th century) Lieutenant Governor of New York in 1885

``The launch of DailyNews.com continues our progressive Internet strategy for the newspaper,'' said Ike Massey, president, publisher and chief executive officer of the Daily News.

``Combined with our other Internet initiatives, we will soon have the ultimate Internet site for news, information and advertising in this market,'' he said.

While DailyNews.com is the easiest way to remember and reach the newspaper's Web site, the newspaper hasn't forgotten it's located in Los Angeles. Computer users also may reach it by using the newspaper's full name: DailyNewsLosAngeles.com.

Soon, the Daily News, along with its sister papers, will launch a separate regional Web site that will contain community news, calendars and other information from across Southern California. Watch for details.
