WUSF partners with StoryCorps to create oral history of America: the StoryCorps mobile recording studio was at St. Armands Circle in January to collect stories from local residents for a unique oral history to be housed in the Library of Congress.


Thanks to a partnership between WUSF 89.7 and StoryCorps, Tampa Bay Tampa Bay, inlet of the Gulf of Mexico, 25 mi (40 km) long and 7 to 12 mi (11.3–19 km) wide, W Fla., separated from the Gulf by numerous small islands; it receives the Hillsborough River. St.  area residents were given the opportunity to participate in recording an oral history of America History of America may refer to either:

A mobile StoryCorps recording studio spent 20 days in St. Armands Circle as part of a national initiative to document everyday history and the unique stories of Americans.

THE LARGEST HISTORY PROJECT EVER UNDERTAKEN

StoryCorps is the largest history project ever undertaken, with more than 2,000 stories already collected from the project's first year and plans to collect more than 250,000 interviews over the next decade. More than 80 stories were collected while StoryCorps was in Sarasota. This remarkable project is sponsored by National Public Radio (NPR), the Corporation for Public Broadcasting The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is a private non-profit corporation which is chartered and funded by the United States Federal Government to promote public broadcasting.

The CPB was created on November 7, 1967 when U.S. president Lyndon B.
 and Saturn.

"It is an honor for our community to be a part of this special project," says JoAnn Urofsky, General Manager of WUSF Public Broadcasting. "StoryCorps will engage the Tampa Bay community and help us appreciate the strength in the stories of everyday people."

A trained facilitator guided participant through the interview process and handled technical aspects of the recordings. The recording sessions lasted 40 minutes each, and participants walked away with a CD of their interview. With their permission, a second copy will be sent to the American Folklife Center The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress was created by Congress in 1976 "to preserve and present American Folklife" (see Public Law 94-201 [1]). The Center incorporates the Archive of Folk Culture, which was established at the Library in 1928 as a  (AFC (1) (Application Foundation Classes) A class library from Microsoft that provides an application framework and graphics, graphical user interface (GUI) and multimedia routines for Java programmers. ) at the Library of Congress, where it will become part of a high-quality digital archive. This collection will eventually grow into an oral history of America.

COMING SOON: ORAL HISTORIES ON WUSF 89.7

WUSF 89.7 will air a selection of the local stories and create special programs around the project. Selected local segments will also air nationally Friday mornings on NPR's Morning Edition.
