WTGI-TV 61 TO PRODUCE FIRST PHILADELPHIA AREA SPANISH-LANGUAGE HEALTH PROGRAM; SHOW DEBUTS NOV. 21

    PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 16 ~PRNewswire~ -- Philadelphia-area Hispani cs soon will have the option of watching a local medical talk show in their own language, WTGI-TV 61, in conjunction with the Society of Ibero-Latin American Medical Professionals, is producing the Philadelphia area's first, ongoing Spanish-language health program.
    "Dr. Castillo y Su Salud (Your Health and Dr. Castillo)," will debut on Nov. 21, from 10:30 to 11 a.m.  The show will be hosted by Jose Castillo, M.D., a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and president of the Society.  Each week, Castillo and a guest medical specialist will discuss the prevention and treatment of health problems common to the Hispanic community, such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease, hypertension, vision care and others.
    "We saw a real need in the Hispanic community for medical information of this type," said station general manager Dan Slape. "More important, this information will be offered to viewers by physicians who speak Spanish and understand the culture," he said.
    The show, which is scheduled for an initial run of 12 weeks, will air each Saturday, from 10:30 to 11 a.m.  Topics so far include:
    Saturday, Nov. 21 -- Castillo interviews guest Rene Rodriguez, M.D., national president of the Interamerican College of Doctors and Surgeons. Rodriguez will discuss the growth in numbers of Hispanic physicians in all types of specialities and the role they play in educating the communities they serve.
    Saturday, Nov. 28 -- Castillo and guest Raphael Collazo, M.D., talk about common illnesses of the eye as well as tips for good eye care.
    Saturday, Dec. 5 -- Guest host Fernando Mendez and Castillo talk about the warning signs of cancer and how lifestyle alterations may reduce risk.
    Saturday, Dec. 12 -- Castillo and Collazo, discuss diabetes, its prevention and management.
    WTGI-TV 61 is an independent, commercial television station broadcasting since 1986.  It is the only multi-ethnic television broadcaster in the Philadelphia region, delivering entertainment and informational programming to ethnic and special interest groups in English and other languages.
    In addition to programming by international networks Telemundo (Spanish) and RAIUSA (Italian), WTGI-TV 61 airs programs in Asian- Indian, Greek, Polish and Ukrainian, among other languages.
