WTC site a work in progress, PA engineer tells BOMA.

Tangible proof that the World Trade Center site only appears to be a "hole in the ground," to those not looking beneath the surface was offered at a slide show presentation September 14 for members of the Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA Boma (bō`mə), city (1984 pop. 197,617), Bas-Congo province, W Congo (Kinshasa), on the Congo River estuary. "Construction has already started, progress has been made. Each day that goes by, momentum grows," said Louis J. Menno, PE currently program director for the site restoration for Port Authority, and former director of disaster recovery following the 1993 World Trade Center dombing

Many of the projects that have begun have started underground in places the public doesn't see, Menno explained. Planners are more than halfway through the design process for the bird-in-flight shaped Transportation Hub Transportation hub is a location where traffic is exchanged across several modes of transport. Construction work on the hub was fast tracked shortly after the September 6 groundbreaking ceremony and excavators have already tunneled 75 feet below grade and built foundations for new tunnels underpinning the #1 subway line. The building is expected to be completed in 2009.

Some of the preliminary work began September 5 on the climate controlled Fulton Street Transit Center The Fulton Street Transit Center is a $750 million project, currently in progress in New York City, USA, that will improve access to and connections between 12 subway services stopping at Manhattan's Fulton Street, PATH service and the World Trade Center station in Lower Manhattan.  oculus oculus

Construction work for the foundation of the World Trade Center began in August, 2006. Excavation and installation of footings will continue through spring 2007. Completion date for the entire project--including creation of the reflecting absence pool and an 8 acre grove of trees--is expected by September 11, 2009.

"Over the next 5-6 years, I think you will see the World Trade Center look entirely different than it does today," Menno said.
