``It wasn't nice watching the team struggle when I knew the tradition Glendale had,'' said Olivares, who finished as the Vaqueros' sixth man in 39th place. ``Hearing about it inspires you to do something no matter how little it is to make a difference. Glendale, boosted by the fifth- and 10th-place finishes of Henok Mulugeta and Chris Wells-Anders in 21:26 and 21:44 over the 4-mile course, outdistanced Oxnard 64-96 for its 12th title in 15 years.

Valley finished fifth with 110 points despite the 2-3 finish of Oscar Sanchez and Damian Mendoza, and Nelson Alfaro in 11th.

The Glendale women romped to a 47-89 victory over Moorpark with four runners in the top 16, including third- and fifth-place finishes by Ana Gjesdal (20:38) and Beatrice Hernandez (20:48), for its fourth title in five years.
