WRESTLING ROUNDUP: HISTORY-MAKING PERFORMANCE FOR KNIGHT HIGH WRESTLER.

Byline: Gideon Rubin Staff Writer

Unheralded sophomore Mike Miller came out of nowhere to make history for Knight High of Palmdale, highlighting an otherwise lackluster showing for the Golden League in the Central Division's individual championships at Brea-Olinda High of Brea on Friday.

Miller, who qualified for the individual competition in the 217-pound division as an alternate and got a randomly selected berth, became the second-year school's first athlete to win a Southern Section postseason event in any sport.

A powerful wrestler despite a violent, if a bit unpolished, wrestling style, Miller rallied from deficits in each of his three victories, highlighted by overcoming a 6-1 deficit midway through the second period of an eventual 11-8 consolation quarterfinal quar·ter·fi·nal

Miller's only loss came via pin (in 2 minutes and 32 seconds) to No. 1 seed and defending section champion Mike Castillo (Brea-Olinda).

``Mike is a very, very physical young man,'' Knight coach Del King said. ``He plays the game of football at a different level and he wrestles at a different level than most are really comfortable with. People don't like to wrestle him because he's so violent and so physical.''

If he wins his first two matches today, Miller would then need just one more victory in two remaining matches to qualify for the Feb. 25-26 Masters Meet at Fountain Valley Fountain Valley, city (1990 pop. 53,691), Orange co., S Calif.; inc. 1957.
