WRESTLING: ESTRADA TAKES THIRD TITLE HIGHLAND SENIOR DEFEATS TEAMMATE.

Byline: Gerry Gittelson Staff Writer

PALMDALE - Highland High's Mike Estrada won his third consecutive Golden League wrestling championship, pinning teammate Brennan Lang with 36 seconds remaining in their 112-pound final Saturday at Highland High in Palmdale.

Estrada, a senior who captured the 103-pound title as a junior and sophomore, was ahead 8-5 before clamping Lang with a headlock and flattening him.

``I feel bad because Brennan's my teammate,'' Estrada said, ``but Brennan's a junior, so he has next year.''

Top-seeded Estrada opened with a 16-second pin over Palmdale's Bryce Miller, followed by a semifinal pin over Littlerock's Joe Fernandez in 1:48.

Lang also started with two pins but was no match for the quicker, more experienced Estrada.

``I tried the best I could but Mike has a lot more experience,'' Lang said. ``He taught me how to wrestle, and when he puts on that headlock, he puts it on really tight.''

Champions and runners-up (unless they're from the same team) advance to the Southern Section Division IV finals on Feb. 16 and 17 at Santa Margarita High.

Highland's Jose Shaw (160) upset top-seeded Chris Newling of Quartz Hill 7-6 on a takedown
