WRAAC's ParentalControl Bar Marks Key Milestones.

ParentalControl Bar, Utilizing the Family Online Safety Institute's ICRA Labeling System, is One of the 50 Most Downloaded Applications on CNET.com

MIAMI -- The Website Ratings & Advisory Council (WRAAC) announced today that it recently passed the important and unprecedented milestone of labeling more than 100,000 of the most popular Web sites on the Internet. WRAAC also announced that since the organization became operational in May 2006, there have been in excess of 115,000 downloads of its ParentalControl Bar application, thereby making the ParentalControl Bar one of the top 50 most downloaded applications from CNET.com throughout the last twelve months.

"ParentalControl Bar is designed to be a simple, effective and free-filtering application that empowers parents to control the content their children view online by identifying the nature of content that appears on a particular website," Jeff Young, WRAAC's President, said. "The ParentalControl Bar is compatible with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Safari Internet browsers."

Using the Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA) tags present on self-labelled Web sites, and from the WRAAC database, the ParentalControl Bar functions simply and effectively. In Child-Mode, the ParentalControl Bar blocks Web sites based on criteria set by the parent. In Parent-Mode, the adult can surf the Internet without restriction. With recent updates, the ParentalControl Bar now also filters using the RTA tag promoted by the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP), and has a KidTracker function, which allows parents to review a child's surfing habits and block or allow sites when appropriate.

As previously announced, WRAAC has an ongoing licensing agreement with the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) to utilize FOSI's ICRA labeling system - a widely recognized labeling system that helps identify and label online content. The mission of FOSI "is to identify and promote best practices, tools and methods in the field of online safety."
