WORLDCOM SELECTS MICOM IN OEM AGREEMENT; DEAL NETS $750,000 FOR MICOM
WASHINGTON, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- World Communications Inc. (WorldCom), a New York-based international telecommunications specialist and MICOM Communications Corp. of Simi Valley, Calif., have announced an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement whereby MICOM will provide $750,000 in Marathon data/voice network servers to support WorldCom's expanding menu of international voice and data services. The announcement was made at the Communications Networks '92 exhibition, held here.
According to David Mer, WorldCom's vice president of new business development, the Marathon servers allow customers to simultaneously transmit international voice, data and facsimile traffic on a single low-cost communications line instead of multiple or higher capacity lines that would otherwise be required. "It saves our customers money on their international communications networks, and it permits us to make more efficient use of our existing international transport capacity," he said.
The initial shipment will include MICOM's Marathon 1K model, while the higher-end Marathon 5K units will be part of future shipments, according to both companies.
"This is an ideal opportunity to expand Marathon applications within the wide-area data/voice integration market even further," said Ken Guy, vice president, corporate strategy and business development for MICOM. "WorldCom will bring Marathon savings to many key long distance service providers and will create many new international Marathon networks, particularly in the European market."
