WORLD GOLD COUNCIL: FIVE STYLES LEAD GOLD
 JEWELRY TRENDS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
NEW YORK, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Five styles of gold jewelry head the World Gold Council list of trends this holiday season: Nature inspired pins, convertible items, earrings that dangle, colored and textured gold links.
"Knowing about these trends is important to every fashion-conscious women because they greatly add to the looks, style and flexibility of any holiday wardrobe," said Nancy Risdon of the WGC, which keeps close track of gold jewelry market.
Real gold -- 14- or 18-karat -- adds a warm glow and brilliant sparkle to almost any fashion look during the festive season, Ms. Risdon said.
Ms. Risdon described each of the top gold jewelry trends:
 Nature Inspired
On the whimsical side, nature-inspired designs are more popular than ever with interpretations of animals, leaves, flowers, and even insects in 14- and 18-karat gold. They offer an innovative way for a woman to make a unique fashion statement.
 Convertible Jewelry
Offering the versatility and value, convertible jewelry can update or expand a jewelry wardrobe with the addition of just a few interchangeable pieces. By incorporating charms and other add-on pieces, pins become pendants, bracelets turn into necklaces, and classic hoops or buttons transform into dangling earrings.
 Earrings that Dangle
With gold balls and gold beads, gold strands or gold fringes -- earrings that dangle gain prominence in a variety of lengths and spirited styles. Gold dangle earrings provide the perfect balance to the season's longer silhouettes.
 Colors and Textures
Colors and textures are important this season. Tri-colored gold is news -- rose is the favorite hue. Bright enamels and semi-precious gem accents add color to sober men's wear-inspired hues. For texture, combinations of matte and polished, and Florentine gold finishes are popular.
 Links
Links -- the mainstay of many gold jewelry wardrobes -- are available in exciting new interpretations. This season, multiple strand chains, combination bangle/link bracelets, and lanyard necklaces (a rope worn around the neck and joined in the front with a sliding clasp) enrich the link offerings.
"Real gold puts a woman into the holiday spirit. Research shows that gold elicits feelings of specialness and confidence to those who wear it," Ms. Risdon said.
