WORLD CUP '94 MARKETING AND NEWS AMERICA FSI, INC. ANNOUNCE MAJOR THEMED PROMOTION

NEW YORK, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- World Cup '94 Marketing and News America FSI, Inc. announced today an agreement in principle to publish a major themed promotion in June 1994 centered around the 1994 FIFA World Cup soccer championship.
The "World Cup '94 Soccer Savings Spectacular" promotion will include a national free standing insert (FSI) with consumer cents-off coupons and a sweepstakes tied to the 1994 FIFA World Cup that will be distributed to 55 million U.S. homes through Sunday newspapers. In addition, the World Cup promotion will also be featured in a Spanish- language FSI targeting 3.5 million U.S. Hispanic households.
The World Cup promotion will be supported by an intensive general consumer and trade advertising campaign. The promotion will feature the 1994 World Cup Official Sponsors and Marketing Partners, as well as other major non-competitive advertisers.
"We're delighted to partner with News America to publish the World Cup '94 Soccer Savings Spectacular. The promotion will deliver the excitement of the world's largest single-sport event into the homes of more than 55 million consumers just when the World Cup is set to begin in June 1994," said Richard Levine, World Cup '94 Marketing senior vice president/general manager. "The World Cup Trophy remains the single most coveted sports trophy in the world."
The 1994 FIFA World Cup will be the first hosted by the United States. For 31 days, from June 17 to July 17, 1994, the U.S. National Team and 23 of the world's best soccer teams will play a 52-match tournament simultaneously in nine major metropolitan U.S. cities -- Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. More than 3.5 million people are expected to attend the World Cup games.
Televised worldwide, the World Cup domestically will be seen on ABC and ESPN. The World Cup Final, to be held in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., will be watched worldwide by more than 1.3 billion people, the largest live television audience in history. In contrast, the 1993 Super Bowl attracted a live television audience of approximately 254 million viewers.
In addition, a cumulative television audience of approximately 31 billion people in as many as 180 countries will watch the 52 games on television, the largest television audience ever recorded.

"We are excited about the opportunity to publish the World Cup '94 themed promotion," said Paul V. Carlucci, News America FSI president. "It will allow our clients to participate in a major world class event."
