WORLD COLOR PRESS APPOINTS JOHN VAN HORN PRESIDENT OF ALDEN PRESS, JEROME B. SPIER ASSUMES VICE CHAIRMANSHIP OF WORLD COLOR

 NEW YORK, July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- World Color Press today named John Van Horn, 52, president of its Alden Press subsidiary. He succeeds Jerome B. Spier, 65, who was appointed vice chairman of World Color, a new position. Alden Press is a leading printer of specialty mail order catalogs and other direct mail materials. It was acquired in February 1993 by World Color Press, one of the largest U.S. printers of consumer magazines, in a transaction valued at approximately $150 million.
 Mr. Van Horn has served as vice president of sales and marketing for Alden Press since 1981 and was promoted to senior vice president in January 1992. Prior to joining Alden in 1981, he was senior vice president at Foote & Davies, a specialty mail-order catalog printer, where he began his career in 1964. Mr. Van Horn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University.

 Commenting on Jerry Spier's appointment to the role of Vice Chairman, Mr. Burton said, "During his 23 years of dedicated service at Alden, Jerry Spier built a strong company recognized throughout the catalog industry for its high quality and excellent service.

 Mr. Spier will serve as vice chairman of World Color Press until June of 1994, after which time he will continue as a consultant to the company.
 Mr. Spier has been chief executive officer of Alden Press since 1975 and CEO and President since June 1986. He first joined Alden in 1963 after serving seven years with a division of Federated Department Stores and running his own company for six years. In 1966, Mr. Spier returned to his entrepreneurial roots to head up another new company which he led until he rejoined Alden in 1973. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Harvard College and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
