WORLD'S LARGEST CORPORATE EMPLOYEE EVENT TO BENEFIT THE AMERICAN
 DIABETES ASSOCIATION
ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Diabetes Association is a guaranteed big winner at the upcoming Amoco Torch Classic in Tulsa, Okla., June 3-7. Expected to draw some 4,000 employees and retirees of Amoco Corporation (NYSE: AN) and its subsidiaries, the Classic could be the largest corporate event of its kind in the world ever held.
"Amoco has come up with a most unique way to raise money for us," said Todd Leigh, board chairman of the American Diabetes Association. "Amoco has agreed to donate the proceeds from the 'Kiss-A-Pig' contest to be held in conjunction with the Classic. Expectations are that proceeds will amount to about $15,000."
The "Kiss-A-Pig" contest was a special event created by the American Diabetes Association to recognize the historic origin of insulin. When insulin was first discovered in 1921, it was only available in pigs and cows. Recent advances have provided new methods of artificially producing human insulin.
The annual Amoco Torch Classic provides the setting for Olympic- style competitive games between Amoco employees and retirees from offices and retiree clubs throughout the country. Events include softball, basketball, swimming, tennis, golf, volleyball, chess, bridge, bowling and a 5K run. Most of the competition will take place at the University of Tulsa.
The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading voluntary health organization supporting diabetes research and public education. Founded in 1940 as a medical society, the association has an affiliate office in every state and activities in more than 800 communities nationwide.
