GLENDALE -- State workplace-safety officials on Thursday investigated the death of a 40-year-old Lancaster carpenter who was run over by a bulldozer at the $324 million Americana at Brand Americana at Brand will be a large outdoor shopping community in Glendale, California. Fryer said investigators are reviewing equipment and training procedures to ensure general safety rules were followed. The inquiry will take at least two months.

Stuart Tom, chief building official with the city of Glendale, said he saw no problems at the site during past visits.

``Each time I've been on that site, the work has been running in what appeared to be a very orderly operation,'' he said. ``It seemed to have been very, very well planned.''

Bounded by Brand Boulevard, Central Avenue and Colorado Street, Americana at Brand includes 475,000 square feet of retail space. It also will offer 238 apartments, 100 condominiums and a two-acre park.

Crews are currently building the foundation and strengthening the soil.
