``This is all part of the work to complete the new car-pool lanes on the Antelope Valley Freeway,'' Bonfilio said.

Detour signs will be posted, and motorists can expect delays of about 10 minutes.

Bonfilio said all northbound lanes on the freeway will be closed Thursday at Sand Canyon Road from 11 a.m. to 5 a.m. Friday. Traffic will be detoured off the freeway at that exit.

``They will be rerouted back onto the freeway at the northbound Sand Canyon (Road) on-ramp,'' she said.

California Department of Transportation The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is a government agency in the U.S. state of California. Its mission is to improve mobility across the state. It manages the state highway system and is actively involved with public transportation systems in California.  officials said work on the car-pool lanes should be completed by the end of the year.
