WOOLWORTH CORPORATION DONATES $50,000 FOR MIDWEST FLOOD RELIEF

 NEW YORK, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Woolworth Corporation (NYSE: Z) announced here today a contribution of $50,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to aid victims of the recent flooding in the Midwest. This contribution is part of the New York-based retailer's flood relief efforts, which also include contributions of clothing, footwear and household items to Red Cross and Salvation Army centers throughout the region.
 "We are very concerned about the well-being of flood victims, many of whom are our customers and associates working in our stores, and we want to do what we can to help them through this difficult time," said William K. Lavin, Woolworth chairman and chief executive officer.
 Woolworth Corporation operates a total of nearly 500 stores in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota, and North Dakota, the states hardest hit by the flooding. The company's principal operations in that area include the Foot Locker athletic footwear and apparel chain; the Lady Foot Locker chain, offering women's footwear and apparel; Kinney family shoe stores; Woolworth general merchandise stores; Afterthoughts and Carimar customer jewelry, handbag and accessory boutiques; Champs Sports stores, offering athletic footwear, equipment and apparel, and Northern Reflections stores, offering women's casual sportswear.
