Sean Woodside of Saugus climbed back into second place in the NASCAR NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), organization that sanctions American stock-car races, est. 1948. Lucas Oil initially signed on as sponsor for one race, the K&N Performance Filters 150 at Irwindale Speedway. The Corona-based company announced before the Infineon Raceway event that it would be the primary sponsor on Woodside's No. 45 Chevy for the remainder of the season.

Jim Inglebright won the Infineon Raceway event, taking the lead from Kenny Shepherd on lap 62 of the 64-lap race. Inglebright won last year's race at Sears Point in similar fashion, taking the lead with two laps to go. It was Inglebright's third consecutive Southwest Series victory at the Sonoma road course.

Frank Maronski Jr. of Quartz Hill was 19th, Greg Pursley of Canyon Country was 28th, Bob Lyon of Acton was 34th, and M.K. Kanke of Frazier Park, who won the pole, was 36th.

The Southwest Series continues tonight with the Firecracker 150 at Mesa Marin Raceway Mesa Marin Raceway was a high banked half mile racetrack in Bakersfield, California that was demolished following the 2005 racing season to make way for housing developments in the foothills of northeast Bakersfield.  in Bakersfield.

``We just passed the halfway point in the season and we're ready to take over the reins in the championship race,'' Woodside said. ``This team knows every inch of Mesa Marin and so do I. We know what it takes to run up front at this track and we plan to do everything in our power to make that happen.''

--Winston West: Greg Pursley, a regular on the NASCAR Winston West Series, will be looking to regain the top rookie spot in the series at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash., for tonight's Coors Light 200.

Pursley trails Mike David by one point in the rookie points race. Brett Thompson is third, one point behind Pursley.

Eric Norris leads the Winston West Series with a 12-point edge over Auston Cameron. Pursley is fifth in the championship points race.

Mike Duncan, whose crew chief is Bill Sedgwick of Acton, is fourth in championship points.

--American Le Mans Series: Valencia's Bryan Herta threw out the first pitch at the Columbus (Ohio) Clippers International League baseball game Friday night.

It consists of a series of endurance and sprint races, and was created in the spirit of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.  driver for Panoz Motor Sports, will be competing in the American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio Sports Course in Lexington, Ohio, on Sunday.

Herta's Panoz team, which includes David Brabham and Jan Magnussen, is the defending champion of the Mid-Ohio race. Herta, who drove on the CART FedEx Series last season, is competing in his first season on the American Le Mans Series.

Panoz Motor Sports is coming off a disappointing showing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team had two entries in the French endurance race two weeks ago, but neither made it to the end.

However, the Panoz team took first and third at the Sears Point Raceway event in May. Herta, driving with Bill Auberlen, finished third.
