Freshman Kelly Rulon scored the Bruins' first goal of the second half early in the third quarter to cut the lead in half, and a 6-on-5 goal by senior Jessica Lopez made it 2-2 with just under a minute remaining in the third. In the final period, Lauren Heineck put UCLA up with another 6-on-5 goal before senior Robin Beauregard, who was named the most valuable player of the tournament, scored to make it 4-2. Stanford converted a UCLA turnover to get within 4-3, but the Bruins stopped a 6-on-5 opportunity in the final minute and held on for the victory. Last season, Stanford defeated the Bruins 8-4 after UCLA defeated the Cardinal 11-7 for the MPSF championship. In 2001, UCLA defeated Stanford 5-4 in the NCAA NCAA abbr.
