WOMEN'S COLLEGE ROUNDUP: USC 2 POINTS SHORT IN BID FOR UPSET.

Rometra Craig's 10-foot jumper went in and out Saturday night and the USC women's basketball team lost to No. 14 Colorado 69-67 in a nonconference game at the Sports Arena.

Senior All-American candidate Tera Bjorklund scored 19 points for Colorado (8-1), which rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit and led for the latter part of the second half.

Senior Ebony ebony, common name for members of the Ebenaceae, a family of trees and shrubs widely distributed in warmer climates and in the tropics. The principal genus, Diospyros, includes both ebony and persimmon trees. Ebony wood, valued from ancient times, is hard and dark; it is extensively used for piano keys and in cabinetmaking, especially the black Macassar ebony of India and the East Indies. Several species (notably D. Hoffman scored 13 points and freshman Eshaya Murphy scored 10 of her 13 points in the first half for USC (3-4).

--Pepperdine 77, Fairleigh Dickinson 54: Shandrika Lee scored 15 points and Kelly Greathouse added seven rebounds as Pepperdine (3-5) snapped a four-game losing streak by winning an opening-round game of the Malibu Beach Malibu Beach (măl`ĭb), resort and residential area (1990 est. pop. 10,000), S Calif., W of Los Angeles and near Santa Monica.
