She is the starting pitcher for the UCLA Bruins women's softball team, and she has recorded 65 wins and 893 strikeouts in her NCAA Division I , who struck out 12 in a three-hit shutout. UCLA eliminated Texas in all three of Osterman's WCWS WCWS Women's College World Series (softball) WCWS Window Circulating Water System appearances. Osterman, the NCAA's all-time strikeout leader, had nine strikeouts in her final game, but she was felled by an unorthodox inside-outside combination. Inside the park, outside the park that is. UCLA leadoff batter Andrea Duran led off the third inning with an inside- the-park home run to right field. One inning later, UCLA catcher Emily Zaplatosch hit a solo shot over the left field fence to account for all of the Bruins' scoring. ``I was just trying to make contact,'' Duran said of her inside-the-park shot. ``I wasn't trying to do anything special.'' Top-seeded UCLA (50-8) advances to play No. 5 seed Northwestern (49-13) today at noon. The Bruins lost their opening-round game to No. 8 Tennessee on Thursday and will need to beat the Wildcats twice in order to advance to the best-of-three national championship series starting Monday against either Arizona or Tennessee. Earlier on Saturday, UCLA eliminated No. 4 Alabama, 4-1. Duran led the Bruins in that game as well, going 2 for 4 with a triple, home run and two runs scored. Selden (35-6) picked up the victory in the Alabama game. She has thrown every inning of every game for UCLA in the postseason. Only two teams in the 25-year history of the WCWS have come back through the losers' bracket to win a national title after dropping their opening game: Texas A&M in 1983 and UCLA in 2003. Duran, Zaplatosch and fellow UCLA seniors Caitlin Benyi and Alissa Eno were freshman on that 2003 national title team. Zaplatosch said that experience has given the team confidence that it can be done again. ``It helps a lot having to go through what we did our freshman year, losing the first game and coming back,'' said Zaplatosch, who was 3 for 3 with a double, home run and single against Texas. Northwestern beat UCLA 3-2 on March 26 at Easton Stadium. No. 2 Arizona and No. 8 Tennessee will play in the other semifinal beginning at 10a.m. Tennessee eliminated Arizona State with a 3-1, nine-inning victory. ramona.shelburne@dailynews.com (818) 713-3617 CAPTION(S): photo Photo: UCLA's Anjelica Selden, left, Jaisa Creps and Andrea Duran (2) celebrate the Bruins' win over Texas on Saturday.
