WOMAN HIT BY SUBWAY TRAIN IN SUICIDE ATTEMPT.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - A British woman was hit by a subway train Saturday afternoon after she walked onto a track at the underground Metro Red Line station, authorities said.

Witnesses said the woman walked through a platform gate, setting off an alarm, as a northbound north·bound

 on the track until the train hit her, a Metro spokesman said.

. There was a note, I'm told,'' Metro spokesman Bill Heard said.

The train was already slowing for the station when the woman stepped onto the track; the train operator tried to stop more quickly but couldn't avoid hitting her, Heard said.

 Medical Center in Mission Hills in what firefighters said was very critical condition. Her name was not released.

Authorities had to turn off the electricity to the tracks before firefighters and paramedics could free the woman from beneath the train.

Red Line trains were halted from 3:30 to 5 p.m. between Universal City and North Hollywood. Subway passengers were taken by bus between Universal City and North Hollywood.
