A 29-year-old woman who had sex with a 13-year-old boy and wrote him a letter about it was arrested after the teen's mother found the letter and notified authorities, sheriff's officials said.

Kathy Ann Hoyt, 29, of Palmdale was arrested Tuesday night after the boy's mother walked into the sheriff's station and told authorities the woman had sex with her son twice in August while spending nights at the family's mobile home.

``She was a friend of his family,'' said Sgt. Mike Becker, head of the local Juvenile Investigations Bureau.

Hoyt was jailed on three counts, including oral copulation, committing lewd acts and having sex with a minor of more than 10 years' age difference. If convicted of all three counts, Hoyt could face a maximum of 18 years in prison.

After finding the letter in the teen's bedroom, the mother confronted the boy, who confessed to the actions. Officials said the woman waited before filing a police report.

``She was going to handle it herself,'' said Becker. ``She later changed her mind. I have a feeling that the mother destroyed the letter.''

Officials said the sex took place during two consecutive weekends while the woman, who is unemployed and divorced, was spending the night at the family's mobile home.

``Somebody came up with sleeping arrangements where the defendant was going to sleep on the victim's bed and the victim was supposed to sleep on the floor,'' said Deputy District Attorney John Portillo.
