WOMAN CLOBBERS WILD GUNMAN : TRAILER PARK RESIDENT SWINGS SHOVEL TO STOP ASSAILANT TRYING TO ABDUCT HER.

Byline: Karen Maeshiro Daily News Staff Writer

After a gunman with an AK-47 broke open the gate in front of her trailer home, grabbed her hair and fired a shot that missed by inches, Ja'Nice Wolfe picked up a shovel she used to clean up after her dog and smacked him on the head.

``I said, you son of a b----, you shoot at me, you wanted this, come on in,'' Wolfe recalled Monday, still shaken from her experience. ``He stepped two feet into the yard and lifted the rifle back up at me. I grabbed the shovel, and I nailed him with it.''

The gunman, identified as Mario Barraillier, 38, of Palmdale was listed in critical condition Monday at Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

After Barraillier was down, Wolfe said she ran to the trailer to get rope and hogtied him. Then she got a towel and tried to stop the bleeding.

``I didn't mean to hurt him that bad. He took a shot at me,'' Wolfe said.

Authorities said Wolfe, 32, and Tom Thrun, 42, who works for L & S Carpets in Lancaster, brought to an end a 45-minute string of violence that started about 8:15 p.m. Sunday, when a shoplifting Ask a Lawyer

The driver stopped about three miles away and pushed a woman passenger and her two children, ages 3 and 5, out of the car, then took off again, authorities said. That's when he went after Wolfe.

Wolfe and Thrun were repairing a stove in their trailer home when their dog started barking furiously at a man outside.

They went outside and saw a man pulling at the boards on the plank fence around the trailer home and saying he wanted to see ``Turquoise,'' an old, long-used nickname for Wolfe.

``I thought it was some drunk we knew,'' Wolfe said.

But it turned out to be a stranger with a rifle. As he broke open the gate, Thrun began looking for Looking for

``The guy had an AK and was pointing at Tom to shoot him in the back,'' Wolfe said. ``I ran as fast as I could and slammed the gate to keep the guy from shooting Tom. The guy had me by the hair and was telling me, `You are going with me.' ''

Wolfe said the gunman, whom she had never seen before, said he wanted her to take him to drug dealer's female companion.

``He put the AK in my face and said, `If you don't take me there, I'm going to kill you.' I said, I'm not going anywhere with you,'' Wolfe said.

``The (gun) barrel got caught in the gate, and I started to close it. He pulled the trigger, the gun went off and it missed,'' Wolfe said. ``That's when I wasn't scared anymore. That's when I got mad.''

She grabbed a shovel that was leaning against the fence and hit the gunman.

``The guy had the gun almost in Tom's mouth,'' Wolfe said. ``When I saw that, I started to hit him with the shovel. I thought the guy was going to kill my fiance.''

The couple then hogtied the man and called out to the law officers who were already searching the mobile home park.
