WOMAN ACCUSES CHP OF SEXISM TOWING CONTRACT AT HEART OF SUIT.

Byline: ALEX DOBUZINSKIS

CASTAIC -- A towing company that lost a contract with the CHP CHP Chapter
CHP Combined Heat and Power
CHP California Highway Patrol
CHP Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (Turkish: Republican People's Party)
CHP Chemical Hygiene Plan (OSHA)
CHP Community Health Plan
amid accusations of gratuities given to officers has turned around and sued the agency.

Preferred Towing of Castaic filed its lawsuit lawsuit: see procedure; tort.  against the California Highway Patrol highway patrol
n.
A state law enforcement organization whose police officers patrol the public highways.
on July 29, a few months after the agency confirmed it was investigating officers suspected of taking gratuities from the company.

Preferred Towing lost its contract June 30 with the CHP's Newhall Station, with senior officers citing the alleged gratuities for the contract's termination. An attorney for Amanda Adolf, the owner of Preferred Towing, said the CHP treated his client unfairly because she is a woman, and that the gratuities amounted to nothing more than gift baskets A gift basket, or fruit basket is typically a gift that is delivered to the recipient at their home or workplace. There are different varieties of gift baskets, some which have fruit only, some with dry/canned goods only (such as tea, crackers and jam) although the standard .

, the attorney for the towing company.

Adolf wrote in a letter to the governor that the CHP had, as a result of the gratuities investigation, unfairly fired two officers whom she knew as friends.

CHP Lt. Timothy Malone from the internal affairs Internal affairs may refer to:

  • Internal affairs (law enforcement), a division of a law enforcement agency which investigates cases of lawbreaking by members of that agency
division declined to discuss the investigation or confirm if any officers had been terminated.

A spokesman for the CHP also declined to discuss the lawsuit.

In the lawsuit, Preferred Towing seeks to win back its contract with the CHP, which it had for eight years.

Attached to the lawsuit are letters to Preferred Towing from Capt. Steve Bernard of the Newhall station and CHP Assistant Chief C.S. Klein. In his letter, Bernard mentioned "gratuities to CHP employees" to justify the termination of his station's contract with Preferred Towing. Klein also mentioned the internal investigation in his letter to an attorney for Preferred Towing, and said the CHP was justified in terminating the contract with the towing company.

In March, Preferred Towing manager Rick Jones told the Daily News that he had vacationed to Lake Havasu, Ariz., with a couple CHP officers. But he said they paid their own way, a contention that Petti repeated Thursday.

Petti said that CHP officers at the Newhall station took a negative view of Preferred Towing after they found out it was run by a woman. Most tow companies are run by men, he said.

"I think it's really fairly outrageous conduct," he said, "and hopefully we'll be able to get some redress Compensation for injuries sustained; recovery or restitution for harm or injury; damages or equitable relief. Access to the courts to gain Reparation for a wrong.

for Ms. Adolf, who I think has been used very badly by the CHP and some of its officers up to this point."

What a shame in this day and age that a woman trying to better her self is looked down on. This is no longer a mans world and they might as well get used to it. We are here and gonna' fight for our rights. I wish Amanda Adolf all the best. I also hope she can hold out long enough to win her case. Women are tired of being treated with disrespect. The day of a woman "needing" a man to support her is coming to a end. Was she such a good cook that her "cookies" left the ones not getting them jealous or what is the problem here? Humm,, cookies given two years ago just now being investigated. What a waste of man hours and money. The City must be real proud of this office and its officers in charge.
