WOLGEMUTH NAMED PRESIDENT OF SIMON & SCHUSTER'S BUSINESS,
 TECHNICAL AND PROFESSIONAL PUBLISHING GROUP
NEW YORK, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Samuel C. Wolgemuth has been named to the newly created position of president of the Business, Technical and Professional Publishing Group of Simon & Schuster, the publishing operation of Paramount Communications Inc.
Wolgemuth will be responsible for managing the firm's Prentice Hall Computer Publishing, Prentice Hall Law & Business, Bureau of Business Practice, Software and Information Services and Appleton & Lange business units.
Wolgemuth, 49, previously served as chief operating officer of Reed Travel Group's HTM International Division, where he was responsible for the Hotel & Travel Index directories, Travel Weekly Newspaper, Meetings & Conventions magazine, Official Meeting Facilities Guide and Jaguar, a new electronic hotel directory. Prior to joining Reed in 1987, he was employed for 15 years in a variety of increasingly responsible sales and publishing management positions with McGraw-Hill, Inc.; first, as district advertising manager for Construction Methods and Equipment magazine and most recently, as director of management services for Business Week magazine.
In announcing the new position, Jonathan Newcomb, president of Simon & Schuster, said, "The 90's are quickly being recognized as a decade of great change and challenge in the publishing industry, with companies striving to compete globally and domestically with on-line information services, electronic publishing and a host of new value-added products. We are pleased to welcome Sam Wolgemuth as a member of our management team at a time when we are poised on the forefront of these exciting opportunities. He brings many talents important to our future growth."
Wolgemuth holds a 1965 Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Taylor University. He lives in New Jersey with his wife, Mary Gayle, and four children.
