WNC celebrates Earth Day. (LIVE LOCAL: ... New Life Journal's department for community news.

On April 18th, there will be an Earth Day celebration in Asheville at MLK Park from 11am-10 pm with live music, an eco-village highlighting Asheville's ecofriendly businesses and nonprofits, and a kid's village. On April 22, GreenWorks (formally Quality Forward) will host their annual fundraising event from 7-11 pm at the Orange Peel in Asheville. The event includes a battle of the Bands and for the first time this year a homemade recyclable swimsuit competition. For more information, visit www.ashevilleearthday.com or call 828-254-1776. The Environmental and Conservation Organization will also host a celebration: ECO's Second Annual Earth Day Energy Expo at the Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock with workshops, lectures and green exhibitors.
