WMUR-TV Hires News Director; New Hampshire native Andrew Vrees was at a New Mexico station.

MANCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 2004

WMUR-TV announced today the station has hired a new news director.

Station General Manager Jeff Bartlett announced today the hiring of Andrew Vrees to serve as the station's news director, effective the week of June 20. Vrees is currently serving as the assistant news director at KOAT-TV, a Hearst-Argyle station in Albuquerque, N.M. A Stratham, N.H. native, Vrees attended the University of New Hampshire New Hampshire, one of the New England states of the NE United States. It is bordered by Massachusetts (S), Vermont, with the Connecticut R. forming the boundary (W), the Canadian province of Quebec (NW), and Maine and a short strip of the Atlantic Ocean (E).  before transferring to the University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission .

Vrees got his start in television journalism as an Anchor, Producer, and Reporter at KTVF-TV in Fairbanks, Alaska. He did similar work at KSWO KSWO Kantonsschule Wohlen (Wohlen, Switzerland)  in Lawton, Oklahoma before moving back to Alaska to become Executive Producer and Anchor at KTUU in Anchorage. He then became Assistant News Director at the ABC ABC
 in full American Broadcasting Co.

His many awards over the years include: Best Newscast and Best Documentary from the Alaska Broadcasters Association, his station in Toledo received the 2000 and 2002 Edward R. Murrow Award The Edward R. Murrow Award can mean:
  • The RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Award given out to broadcast news organizations by the Radio-Television News Directors Association since 1971
  • The Edward R. Murrow Award (WSU) given out to prominent broadcast journalists by the Edward R.
 for Overall Excellence, and KOAT KOAT Knower Of All Things  won an Emmy for Continuing Coverage, as well as Station of the Year from both the Associated Press and the New Mexico Broadcasters Association.

Vrees is scheduled to start the week of June 20th. He is taking the position formerly held by Jennifer Crompton, who stepped down last month to spend more time with her family.

Vrees graduated from the University of Southern California where he received degrees in Journalism and Political Science.
