WITNESS ARRESTED IN ARSON FLOWER-SHOP FIRE STATEMENT SUSPICIOUS, AUTHORITIES SAY.

LANCASTER - A Lancaster man who was at the scene of an early morning fire that gutted a landmark downtown flower shop has been arrested on suspicion of starting it.

Kevin Leavelle, 41, has no apparent connection to Palmdale-Lancaster Florist or its owners, but his account didn't jibe with the facts, officials said.

Leavelle was arrested Thursday on suspicion of arson of property and was being held at the Lancaster sheriff's station in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The blaze broke out about 4:30 a.m. May 4 when someone smashed a rear window at the Lancaster Boulevard shop, then poured in a flammable liquid Generally, a flammable liquid means a liquid which may catch fire easily.

In the USA, there is a precise definition of flammable liquid as one with a flashpoint below 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

The fire occurred four days before Mother's Day, one of florists' busiest holidays. Family, friends and other volunteers helped owners Randy Poitevint and Stephanie Gile move into a vacant neighboring neigh·bor
