WIRELESS NETWORK TO PLAY KEY ROLE IN GENERAL MAGIC ALLIANCE

NEW YORK, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- ARDIS, the first and largest wireless data network, has been selected by Motorola to provide wireless network services for its personal intelligent communicators developed as part of the General Magic Alliance.
"The ability to transmit and receive data easily and instantly is crucial to the success of General Magic's new class of personal communication products and services," said Frank Wapole, president and chief executive officer of ARDIS. "By using the ARDIS network, users will be able to send messages to colleagues, receive instant news updates, order consumer products and stay connected to both home and office without telephone lines."
ARDIS and Motorola are working together to enable Motorola's General Magic-based products on the ARDIS network. ARDIS will contribute its expertise as the first and most widely-used wireless data network to this new category of personal intelligent communicator devices.
More than 35,000 people already use the ARDIS network each day with more than 45 million messages transmitted each month. Users are primarily mobile workers using hand-held computers who communicate from within buildings and on the street, with corporate information systems or directly with their peers.
The ARDIS network includes more than 1,250 based stations and serves more than 8,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The network covers more than 80 percent of the population and 90 percent of the business activity in the United States.
ARDIS is a 50-50 partnership of Motorola and IBM.
