A Winter Storm Warning is an announcement made by the National Weather Service of the United States which means a winter storm is occurring or is about to occur in for mountain areas. NWS forecasters also reduced the chance of rain today from 80 to 40 percent. Meteorologist Curt Kaplan said the storm ended up looking far different than the agency's computer models had suggested, adding that the bulk of the moisture was blown west and south by a powerful jet stream. ``It didn't work out like we thought it should,'' he said. It will be partly cloudy with highs in the 60s today and Thursday, making for a cool, yet dry New Year, Seto said. There will be a 30 percent chance of rain on Friday. In mountain areas, snow levels will range from 5,000 to 6,000 feet, although light snow could fall as low as 4,000 feet along north-facing interior slopes, producing snow accumulations of one to three inches, according to an NWS advisory.
