It was difficult to tell who was hotter - the stars or the politicians - on the red carpet Sunday night at the Emmys. After all, the temperature did climb into the 90s as everyone up for anything gathered at the Shrine Auditorium.

The women from the Fox drama series ``24'' were well-dressed. The only thing that didn't look good on Elisha Cuthbert, the annoying ``Perils of Pauline'' daughter on the series, was her shag shag

In her trademark machine-gun delivery, punctuated by a laugh that makes Beavis sound like a grad student, she said that, if she were elected governor, she would tax breast implants. If not elected, she would like to see opponent Arnold Schwarzenegger win. ``He's so hot, I want to have sex with him,'' she said.

Jeff Garlin, from the Larry David hit ``Curb Your Enthusiasm,'' was told that Gary Coleman, another celebrity candidate for governor, was also in the crowd.

``I don't want to see him,'' Garlin said, ``as much as I want to see the big-bosomed lady.'' Carey, the big-bosomed lady, and the diminutive former child actor will ``debate'' on Wednesday at Luckman Theatre at Cal State Los Angeles. The debate will air Oct. 1 on The Game Show Network.

The stars looking for camera time stopped at the ``Access Hollywood'' booth, where the Fab Five from ``Queer Eye for the Straight Guy'' were conducting interviews. Patricia Heaton, also wearing the ever-popular cream color, clowned around. Her gown had a high neckline neckline

There were some fashion victims in the crowd, like ``Sex and the City'' star Cynthia Nixon, who wore a vintage Halston strapless leather dress with pleated skirt and thick belt. It's orange color matched her shade of hair.

Her co-star Kim Cattrall wore Armani - a silver leather and beaded gown with cutouts at the waistline.

But leave it to a man to steal the show. Joe Pantoliano was fashionable in a blue silk suit by Borreli and matching hat. Underneath he wore a light blue vest and tie with daisies.
