SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - They may not have swept the competition, but both newcomers and returning champions from Santa Clarita high schools came home with several medals from the recent Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Academic Decathlon decathlon (dĭkăth`lŏn), in modern Olympic games, a contest for men held over two days and composed of 10 track-and-field events. .

Final results showed Canyon High School Canyon High School can refer to:
  • Canyon High School (Anaheim) in Anaheim, California
  • Canyon High School (Santa Clarita), in Santa Clarita, California
  • Canyon High School (Canyon, Texas), in Canyon, Texas
 in 11th place overall and third in the North County region behind Beverly Hills and Burbank. Saugus High School Saugus High School may refer to:
  • Saugus High School (California)
  • Saugus High School (Massachusetts)
 finished in 14th place overall and fourth in North County.

 from 2004, earned a perfect 1,000 score and won a gold medal for speech. Canyon junior Cory Cunningham won a medal as the team's top scorer as well as a gold for speech and a bronze for essay.

Saugus' Sean Lay was the team's first-place scorer and brought home three varsity medals; a gold for interview, a silver for speech and a bronze for mathematics.

Saugus senior Mollie mollie or molly, New World fish of the genus Mollienesia, in the same family as the guppy (see killifish). Mollies are found from the E and central United States to Argentina.  Rashid, who competed in the honors division, won a gold medal for interview and a silver medal for essay. Heidi Henson, another Saugus student in the honors division, earned silver medals in essay and interview.

Two other Saugus students brought home two medals each; Taylor O'Donoghue-Williams won a varsity division silver medal for interview and a bronze for speech while Sean Fitzhugh, in the scholastic division, won silver in interview and bronze in speech.

Other Saugus medalists included Peter Ibarra with a scholastic division bronze for speech and Danny Illand with an honors division silver for essay.

Two returning Canyon High competitors did well: Senior Cameron White took a silver in speech and a bronze in economics, and senior Emily Green won silvers in interview and speech.

Canyon's Cesar Hernandez, a junior, earned a gold in speech and a bronze in interview. Seniors Devin Hardin, Dan Cantu and David Pacideh won interview medals.

Junior Rachael Marsik garnered a gold in interview and a bronze in speech.

The Canyon team also finished seventh in the Super Quiz held Feb. 5. Dennis Lynch coached the Canyon squad for his 17th year, while Terri Sage, in her first year as coach, guided the Saugus team.
