As in the contest, most people were spur-of-the-moment competitors. Burbank resident Tom MacMaster went to the store to buy waffles for his daughter and ended up getting measured. Although his entry was nosed out in the end, the contest wasn't without its merits. He learned his nose measures 6 centimeters.
