 are sometimes surprised to find that the area's famous cabernet sauvignon grapes produce a rich tawny port at Prager Port Works in St. Helena.

In its current release, called Noble Companion ($50), Prager blends five vintages of cabernet sauvignon Cab·er·net Sauvignon

1. A variety of black grape used to make red wine, notably in Bordeaux and the Napa Valley.

Tawny ports are relatively soft and often easier to drink than vintage ports.

Winemaker Peter Prager says, ``It's made in the classic tawny style and is one of our most popular ports.''

Only 312 cases of the Noble companion were made, and consequently it's not easy to find.

The O'Brien 2004 Seduction ($35), a Bordeaux blend dubbed ``round and voluptuous'' by reviewer Catherine Fallis, is the O' Briens' signature bottling.

The winery also produces chardonnay and merlot.
