Peter Barton Wilson (born August 23, 1933) is an American Republican politician from California. Wilson served as the thirty-sixth Governor of California (1991–1999), the culmination of more than three decades in the public arena that

On a sunny Sunday when most people were biking, relaxing or watching sports, the Republican governor was holed up in his office signing and vetoing the final piles of bills the Legislature sent him one month ago.

Monday night is the deadline for Wilson to act on the bills. He plans to leave the next day for a five-day trade mission to London.

Wilson on Sunday also signed three coastal protection bills.

The development bill, sought by San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  Mayor Willie Brown, the former Assembly speaker, allows a newly created Treasure Island Development The Treasure Island development is a large residential, commercial, and retail development proposed for construction on Treasure Island, a small articificial island located in San Francisco Bay and within the city limits of San Francisco, California.  Authority to serve as the lead agency to develop Treasure and Yerba Buena islands.

The connected, man-made islands in the middle of the bay were built in the 1930s and have been a naval base. The Navy is closing down its operations this fall, transferring ownership to the city and county of San Francisco.

All the bills take effect Jan. 1.
