WILMER COOKSEY JR. NAMED PLANT MANAGER OF GM MIDSIZE CAR DIVISION BOWLING GREEN, KY., PLANT

 WARREN, Mich., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The appointment of Wilmer Cooksey Jr. as plant manager of the Midsize Car Division Bowling Green, Ky., plant -- home of the Chevrolet Corvette -- was announced by Joseph D. Spielman, General Motors vice president and general manager, effective today.
 Cooksey began his GM career in 1972 as an assistant professor in industrial engineering at General Motors Institute in Flint, Mich. In 1976, he became a salaried employee-in-training at the General Motors Assembly Division (GMAD) plant in St. Louis. He held several positions there and transferred to GMAD's Doraville plant in Atlanta in 1980 as an assistant manufacturing superintendent.
 Cooksey worked in various superintendent positions at Doraville and in 1990 was named production manager at the Chevrolet-Pontiac-GM of Canada Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kan., the position he held until his current assignment.
 Born April 6, 1942, in Ft. Worth, Texas, Cooksey received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Tennessee State University in 1965 and a master's degree in industrial engineering from the University of Toledo in 1972.
 Cooksey replaces Paul J. Schnoes, who retired Dec. 31, 1992, under provisions of the GM retirement plan.
