WILLIAM A. SCHREYER ELECTED TO FOOTE, CONE & BELDING BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 CHICAGO, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- William A. Schreyer, renowned Merrill Lynch leader, has been elected to the Board of Directors of Foote, Cone & Belding Communications, Inc. (NYSE: FCB), it was announced today by Bruce Mason, FCB chairman and chief executive officer.
 Schreyer served as chairman of Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. from April 1985 through June 1993 and chief executive officer from July 1984 through April 1992. During his tenure, Merrill Lynch became the world's largest and most profitable securities underwriter with total client assets of $500 billion, more than any other financial institution, and offices in 30 countries.
 Mason said, "Under Bill Schreyer's leadership, Merrill Lynch became a premier global financial services corporation. He brings more than 40 years of stellar professional and managerial experience, an international perspective and a deep commitment to business ethics to the FCB board.  Throughout his career, Schreyer has been a leading advocate of fair, open and harmoniously regulated global markets and U.S. government policies that create greater savings and investment to secure the nation's international competitiveness.
 A former vice chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, Schreyer led stock exchange delegations to Russia and to the People's Republic of China to encourage the development of securities markets there.
 His numerous professional, civic and international affiliations include The Council on Foreign Relations and The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Washington, D.C.-based bipartisan public policy institute. Schreyer is chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Pennsylvania State University, his alma mater; a trustee of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation and a special financial advisor to the Holy See by papal appointment. Schreyer is also currently a director of Schering-Plough Corp.
 Schreyer's election brings the number of outside directors on the 10-member FCB Board to four.
