More than 200 firefighters and seven helicopter crews battled the flames that were reported at 12:27 p.m. near 80th Street West and West Avenue D-14, said county fire spokesman Ed Loney.

Firefighters also worked aggressively in the early stages of the fire, setting backfires to stop the flames from spreading further, officials said.

No evacuations were ordered and there were no reports of injuries, officials said.

Firefighters were able to control the fire by 3 p.m.

The fire forced closure of West Avenue D-14 between 60th Street West and 80th Street West, Loney said.

Ted France, 18, who was at home sleeping when the fire started, said the flames came within 300 feet of his home on Avenue D-14.

He found out about the fire when his girlfriend telephoned and warned him that there was a fire near his home.

``I woke up and I saw it,'' France said. ``It's never been this close before.''
