WID picks Horizons Foundation Scholarships for 2005.

Women In Defense, a national security organization affiliated with NDIA, recently announced 2005 awards from its Horizons Scholarship.

Awards of $1,500 each were granted to two students--Tessa Zolnikov, of Roundup, Mont., and Sandra Mackay, of Arlington, Va.--said Valerie Schlickbernd, of Camber Corp., in Solomons, Md. She heads WID's scholarship selection committee.

Zolnikov is majoring in political science/international relations with a minor in Russian language at the University of Montana in Missoula. Mackay is seeking a Ph.D. in bio-defense from George Mason University, in Fairfax, Va.

Since 1990, WID has made 85 Horizons awards of more than $56,000 to deserving recipients. WID established the Horizons fund to help finance the education of individuals either employed or planning careers in defense or national security areas. Scholarships are awarded to applicants who require financial assistance and demonstrate both strong academic credentials and a commitment to a career in national security. Awards are made annually.
