WICI ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH CAPITAL CITIES/ABC, INC.
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Women in Communications, Inc. (WICI) announced today that it has joined forces with Capital Cities/ABC, Inc. in its Stop Sexual Harassment campaign. The partnership will be highlighted at WICI's Matrix Dinner at the Westin William Penn on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. Andy Jackson, vice president-corporate affairs at Capital Cities/ABC, Inc., will introduce the campaign. Capital Cities/ABC, Inc. is the exclusive sponsor of the Matrix Dinner, the gala event of WICI's 1993 National Conference. The campaign was the idea of several men and women at ABC who were troubled by the lack of resources available to the public on the topic of sexual harassment. "We were mad as hell, and we were not going to take it anymore," recalled Jackson, who organized his colleagues to take action. "We had to find a way to do a PSA and get it aired." The campaign was launched last summer with a 30-second public service announcement produced and funded by ABC. The PSA explores what sexual harassment is, and it directs viewers to their local public libraries to read the "Stop Sexual Harassment" resource booklet. The American Library Association and American Women in Radio and Television also are partners in the campaign. For details on the campaign or the national conference, call Larissa Kulczycky at 412-553-5063 or 412-553-5064. After Oct. 3, contact WICI at 703-528-4200. WICI is one of the nation's largest communications organizations with nearly 12,000 members in all fields of communications. WICI recognizes distinguished professional achievements, promotes high professional standards and protects First Amendment rights and responsibilities of communicators. -0- 10/1/93 /CONTACT: Larissa Kulczycky or Laura Rush of WICI at the WICI office at the Westin William Penn, 412-553-5063, or 412-553-5064/
